Story Summary
The episode begins with the Simpson family trying to encourage baby Maggie to say her first word. While everyone waits patiently, Bart becomes curious and asks what Lisa's first word was.
Marge begins telling the story, taking the family back to 1983, before Lisa was born. At the time, the Simpsons were living in a much smaller apartment, and Bart was excited because he believed he was going to have a baby brother. When Lisa is born instead, Bart quickly becomes jealous because all of the family's attention is focused on the new baby.
As Lisa grows, Bart plays several mischievous pranks on his little sister. He cuts her hair, sticks stamps all over her, and constantly blames her for changing his life. Feeling lonely and ignored, Bart decides to run away from home.
Just before Bart leaves, baby Lisa suddenly speaks her first word.
Her very first word is "Bart."
