Story Summary
The episode begins when Bart and Lisa discover that their family's clothes smell terrible because the Simpsons' old washing machine is covered in mold. Marge gives Homer money to buy a brand-new washing machine.
On his way to the appliance store, Homer is distracted by the delicious smell of smoked barbecue. He discovers a mysterious pit master selling amazing barbecue cooked in a unique beehive-shaped smoker made from a meteorite. Unable to resist, Homer spends the washing machine money on the special smoker instead.
Although Marge is initially upset, she quickly changes her mind after tasting Homer's incredible barbecue. Soon, people from all over Springfield gather at the Simpsons' house to enjoy his cooking. Homer's barbecue becomes so popular that celebrity TV chef Scotty Boom challenges him to a televised smoke-off competition.
Just before the big event, disaster strikes when Homer's valuable smoker is stolen from the backyard. Devastated, Homer loses hope of winning the competition.
Determined to help their father, Bart and Lisa become detectives. They search for clues around the yard and discover that the thief distracted Santa's Little Helper with natural peanut butter. Following the evidence, they track down Nelson, who unknowingly leads them to the real mastermind behind the theft.
Bart and Lisa eventually uncover the truth: the smoker was stolen as part of a plan created by Tyler Boom, the son of celebrity chef Scotty Boom. Tyler wanted to frame his father because he felt neglected and believed his father cared more about television fame than family.
After the mystery is solved, Scotty and Tyler reconcile, the stolen smoker is returned to Homer, and the family learns that honesty and family relationships are more important than winning any competition.
