Story Summary

The episode begins with Bart coming up with another outrageous prank. While visiting Costington's department store, Bart discovers the store's wedding gift registry and decides to use it for his own scheme.

He creates a fake wedding for himself and an imaginary bride named “Lotta Cooties.” Bart invites people to the fake ceremony and encourages them to purchase wedding gifts.

His real plan is to collect the presents and return them to the store for credit. However, his elaborate scheme doesn't go according to plan. Chief Wiggum catches Bart, and the prank results in serious consequences.

Bart Goes to Juvenile Detention

Bart is brought before Judge Constance Harm, who sentences him to six months in juvenile detention.

For Bart, the experience is very different from his usual life in Springfield. The detention facility has strict rules, routines, and guards who aren't impressed by his usual tricks.

Bart soon meets Gina Vendetti, a tough and rebellious girl who is also being held at the facility.

Gina has a much more serious attitude toward escaping than Bart does. Eventually, she forces Bart to join her in an escape attempt.

Bart and Gina Escape

Bart and Gina successfully get away from juvenile detention and begin travelling together.

At first, the two don't seem to have much in common. Bart is used to pulling pranks for fun, while Gina has a much more troubled background.

As they spend more time together, however, Bart begins to understand that Gina's behaviour comes from deeper problems.

The two eventually develop an unexpected friendship while trying to stay ahead of the authorities.

A Change in Gina

The journey becomes more emotional when Bart discovers that Gina has been carrying a lot of anger and pain.

Instead of simply treating her like another criminal, Bart begins to sympathize with her. Their unusual friendship allows Gina to temporarily experience the kind of companionship and family connection that she has been missing.

Eventually, Bart and Gina are caught and returned to juvenile detention.

However, Bart doesn't abandon his new friend.

Bart Helps Gina

When the authorities begin dealing with Gina, Bart realizes that she needs more than punishment.

Bart's compassion eventually helps Gina reconnect with the idea of having people who genuinely care about her.

The experience changes Bart as well. Although he still loves pranks and mischief, he gains a better understanding of how his actions can affect other people.

The episode ends with Bart returning to his family after his time in juvenile detention, while Gina receives a more hopeful path forward.
